María José Vargas y Natalia Méndez brillaron en el Boston Open disputado en Estados Unidos, al consagrarse campeonas en la modalidad de dobles femeninos. En una emocionante final, derrotaron a las mexicanas Herrera/Mejia por 2-1 (8-15, 15-10 y 11-4), obtuvieron así el título en un torneo de alto nivel internacional.
Además de su éxito en dobles, también compitieron en la modalidad de singles. Méndez llegó hasta los octavos de final, mientras que Vargas avanzó hasta las semifinales, con un excelente desempeño en ambas disciplinas.
El triunfo en el Boston Open significó un hito importante para María José Vargas, quien alcanzó el primer lugar en el ranking mundial, consolidó su posición como una de las mejores jugadoras del mundo en esta disciplina.
En cuanto a los resultados detallados, en la categoría de dobles, Vargas/Méndez, preclasificadas como #3, avanzaron directamente a la siguiente ronda debido a la no presentación de sus oponentes colombianas Amaya/Riquelme. En las semifinales, lograron una emocionante victoria sobre las mexicanas Longoria/Salas Solis por doble 15-14, antes de consagrarse campeonas en la final frente a Herrera/Mejia de México.
En la modalidad de singles, Vargas, preclasificada como #2, inició su camino en los octavos de final con una contundente victoria sobre la canadiense Juliette Parent por doble 15-1. Luego, en los cuartos de final, superó a la boliviana Angélica Barrios por 15-7 y 15-11, pero cayó en las semifinales ante la mexicana Paolo Longoria por 15-3 y 15-5. Por otro lado, Méndez comenzó directamente en los octavos de final, donde perdió ante Barrios por 5-11 y 15-12.
