El mundo del atletismo sufrirá nuevos cambios en la reglamentación de infracciones. Ahora, la rigidez con las que se medirán las infracciones será más leves, lo que va a permitir a los atletas poder realizar sus pruebas con mayor normalidad.
El 1 de noviembre fue un día de muchos cambios para el atletismo, sobre todo para las competiciones de velocidad y resistencia. Esto es así porque el Consejo Mundial de Atletismo aprobó una flexibilización sobre las penalidades a la hora de competir, lo que va a permitir que los atletas tengan una posibilidad de cometer un error y no sufrir una descalificación inmediata.
Como primera medida, estas modificaciones fueron planificadas en el 2018, ante la gran cantidad de descalificaciones que había en las competencias de velocidad y resistencia, lo que desvirtuaba las carreras. Es por eso que se produjeron nuevos cambios en la reglamentación de infracciones, principalmente en la invasión del carril.
Antes, si un atleta pisaba la línea blanca del carril era automáticamente descalificado. Ahora, con las nuevas reglamentaciones, eso no es más así: si un participante pisa una línea será advertido, pero puede competir. Sin embargo, en caso de que se repita, ahí sí el atleta será descalificado. A su vez, algo similar ocurre con pisar la parte interna de la pista: el competidor va a ser advertido y, en una futura repetición, no continuará con la prueba.
Por último, es importantísimo resaltar que no habrá cambios si un atleta pisa el carril del contrario. En ese caso, la severidad de la sanción será exactamente la misma porque puede influir en la carrera del rival y puede alterar el tiempo de una prueba. Es por eso que se flexibilizó las dos penalidades anteriores.
Por último, estos nuevos cambios en la reglamentación permitirán que no haya tantos descalificados en competiciones de pista. Solo para poner un ejemplo, en el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo de pista cubierta del 2018, en Birmingham, Inglaterra, hubo un total de 21 descalificaciones en total. Es por eso que, desde ese año, se llevó esta flexibilización, aprobada el 1 de noviembre.
