Luego de asegurar la clasificación con la goleada a República Dominicana, debió enfrentar a Cuba, para definir el primer puesto del grupo B. Y allí, sacó chapa de candidato, y se impuso por 40-29, jugando nuevamente a un gran nivel.

El arranque del partido fue bastante parejo, gol a gol. Promediando el primer tiempo, Argentina despegó en el marcador, con Santiago Barceló y Tobías Torossian como referentes en ataque, pero Cuba recortó, demostrando muchísima fortaleza física. Si bien es favorito, Argentina deberá jugar a un alto nivel, para no sufrir, y meterse en una final que, muy probablemente, tenga del otro lado a Brasil.
